Liverpool given injury boost

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been given the all clear to resume first-team training, and has targeted the game against Tottenham on September 18th to make his return.

The England international has been sidelined with a groin injury, and has not played in the Premier League since March 6th.

An operation in April meant the midfielder was hopeful of making the start of the 2010-11 campaign, but an infection during pre-season, which hospitalised The Reds’ skipper, has dented his progress.

Meanwhile, Gerrard has been quick to herald the signing of Craig Bellamy from Manchester City, and feels the Wales international can help the Anfield outfit push for honours this season.

“I’m delighted that Craig is back – I didn’t want him to leave in the first place,” the 31-year old told The Telegraph.

“That pace and the fiery character he’s got will help us in our push for success this season.

“He’s very knowledgeable about the game and I know even though he’s slightly older than me he will still want to learn and do well here,” the England man concluded.

Liverpool have started their 2011-12 campaign well, picking up seven points from their first three games, and take on Stoke at the Brittania on Saturday.
